Audubon alum Smith earns First Team All-American status
(KMAland) -- Former Audubon standout Gavin Smith has earned first team All-American status at the Division III NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Central College standout placed sixth in the decathlon this past weekend. In addition, former Sidney distance star and Central senior Noah Jorgenson was a second team All-American with an 11th place finish in the 1500.
Multiple Vehicle Accident on I80 Near Walnut Claims One Life
(Walnut) One person died, and another suffered injuries in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 near Walnut. The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened at around 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday near the 48.55-mile marker in the westbound lanes on Interstate 80. Authorities say 45-year-old Emma Gonzalez Maldonado, of Lincoln, Nebraska, died in the crash. Emily Elizabeth Esteban, of Lincoln, suffered injuries.

(Area) Severe storms swept through southwest Iowa overnight and continue this morning. According to the National Weather Service, Emergency Management reported power lines down on the northeast side of Audubon at 1:39 a.m. Local law enforcement also reported several tree branches down in the city limits. A personal weather station recorded a 64 mph wind gust in Audubon around 1:38 a.m.
