Marine girls bash their way to revenge against Little Chute

LITTLE CHUTE, Wis. — The Marinette High School softball team made it three in a row with a North Eastern Conference victory at Little Chute on Monday.

The Marines rode the momentum of a doubleheader sweep of Waupaca on Friday to an 8-2 win against the Mustangs.

The victory avenged a 21-16 loss at home earlier this season in which the Marines saw the Mustangs erase a 13-4 deficit.

Wynn Erdman was in complete control in the circle. She allowed two unearned runs on just three hits, all of them singles, while striking out a dozen and walking none.

Meanwhile, the Marinette bats racked up eight runs on 12 hits.

The Marines put up three in the third, three more in the fifth and a pair in the sixth inning and were never threatened on their way to a third straight victory.

Destiny Walker led the way at the plate, going 3-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored.

Erdman and Regan Hermanson added two hits and two RBI apiece. Peyton VanPool went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, and Barrett Cole added a double while going 1-for-5 at the plate.

Marinette improved to 5-9 on the year and 5-9 in NEC play, moving them into a tie for seventh with Wrightstown in the conference standings. Little Chute fell to 1-16 overall and 1-11 in NEC play.
