More than 1,200 acres burned from wildfire near Maricopa

FRIDAY UPDATE:

According to the Kern County Fire Department, the fire is now at 50% containment and has burned 1,286 acres.

There is no evacuation warning at this time. KCFD also says this is proof that a wildfire can happen anytime in Kern County and people should be prepared.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

PREVIOUS STORY:

An evacuation warning has been lifted for a wildfire near Maricopa, which started Thursday afternoon.

The Kern County Fire Department is calling it the "School Fire" since it's off "Basic School Road. The fire burned the area east of Maricopa, and south of Highway 166.

According to KCFD the fire has burned more than 1,200 acres and is 35% contained.

As a result of the fire, Wind Wolves Preserve is closed.

No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
