LCM (50 meters) Highlighting the final night in Fort Lauderdale was NC State commit Erika Pelaez as she swam a personal best time in the 100 free swimming a 54.56. Her old best time was a 54.65 from 2022 Summer Nationals. Pelaez already swam a personal best in the 200 free earlier in the meet. Virginia commit Aspen Gersper was 2nd in a 56.33, less than two-tenths off her lifetime best.

LCM (50 meters) On day 3 in Fort Lauderdale, Eagle Aquatics teammates Kaii Winkler and Erika Pelaez led the way with two wins each. Both are committed to NC State for this fall. Pelaez highlighted night 2 with a best time in the girls 200 free and was just off another personal best here with a 25.35 in the 50 free as her best stands at a 25.29 from 2022. This swim was her 3rd fastest ever. Finishing behind Pelaez was Abigail Heizer who swam a 25.59 to earn the Olympic Trials cut of a 25.69.

Florida Atlantic University softball team (41-13, 21-6 AAC) took the home series sweep over the University of Tulsa Golden Hurricane (29-22, 14-13 AAC). It was a monumental senior weekend for the Owls as they gained their 40th season win during game two, which is the best regular season record that the team has had in eight years.

Fort Lauderdale – Abbas Karimi says swimming changed his life. The 27-year-old Fort Lauderdale resident was recently named Visit Lauderdale’s newest ambassador. He’s won 59 medals during his swimming career, including four at the international level, despite being born without arms in war-torn Afghanistan. As a young child finding solace in the water, Karimi learned to swim in the rivers of Kabul then progressed to swimming in pools.
