Fight for the Boundary Waters benefit concert
MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - Local musicians are putting on a concert to raise money for the group Friends of the Boundary Waters, who have been advocating for the protection, preservation, and restoration of the Wilderness area since 1976. The event is Friday August 14th from 2:00 to 9:00 pm. It’s a free event with a silent auction, a bake sale, and outdoor activities such as soccer, board games, and a bounce house. There will also be popsicles. All proceeds and donations will go to Friends of the Boundary Waters. Concert organizer Shailin O’Brien of the band Pocket Lounge wanted to help out after the U.S. Senate removed federal protections of the BWCA. As it stands only state regulations can keep a copper sulfide mining operation from within the Rainy Lake Watershed.
