Superior woman to be honored as Volunteer of the Year
On Wednesday, Governor Tony Evers will recognize outstanding individuals and organizations at the 2024 Governor’s Service Awards. The honor will be given to those who have gone above and beyond to help their communities and the state. Katelyn Baumann of Superior will be recognized as a Volunteer of the Year.
U.S. Forest Service prescribes burn to promote growth in Chequamegon Nicolai National Forest
IRON RIVER, Wis. (Northern News Now) - Residents near Iron River, Wis. may have seen some extra smoke in the sky the past few days but the fires that caused it were planned. U.S. Forest Service crews lit a prescribed burn on 900 acres of the Chequamegon Nicolai National Forest on Monday. It was the area’s second-ever prescribed burn.

Prep Softball: Superior shuts out Grand Rapids in double-digit 10-0 win

Superior heads to Chippewa Falls tomorrow for a tournament where they will face D.C. Everest in their first game at 11 a.m., they lost to D.C. Everest 8-7 just last week.
UWS Softball Advances to NCAA Tournament
ST. PAUL, Minn.- The UW-Superior softball team are 2024 UMAC Champions and will now compete in the NCAA Division III Tournament. On Saturday, the Yellowjackets defeated Bethany Lutheran 6-5 to claim the conference crown. MyKenzie Leccia delivered a walk-off win with an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh, sending Camille Wikstrom home.

Duluth, Minn.- Registration has opened for a challenging Duluth event. 23rd Veteran is hosting its 9th Annual Ruck Life event on Saturday, June 1. The event features a 10-mile hike with weighted rucksacks to symbolize the burdens carried by veterans experiencing combat stress. Money raised from the march helps fund reconditioning programs for veterans in Duluth.
