$250K bond set in Maple Heights clinic stabbing

CLEVELAND (WJW) — A man charged with attempted murder in the stabbing of a clinic worker in Maple Heights was given a $250,000 bond at his Tuesday morning appearance in a Cuyahoga County court.

Jason Halasz, 24, of Independence , pleaded not guilty to his indicted charges of attempted murder and felonious assault in the April 24 stabbing. A judge ordered Halasz to have no contact with the victim. He’ll also be under supervision if released and be subject to GPS monitoring.

The attack allegedly happened while Halasz was a patient receiving treatment in a private room of the Signature Health clinic along Southgate Park Boulevard.

Authorities said Halasz stabbed the 49-year-old caregiver in the neck and chest with a knife while in that room, then fled down a hallway. The caregiver reportedly chased the man and was stabbed again.

Another employee intervened, throwing a chair at Halasz, allowing a security guard to subdue Halasz at gunpoint, according to a news release.

At the time, the victim was reported to be in critical but stable condition at a hospital.

The facility, in the Southgate USA plaza, serves children and adults and specializes in mental health care and addiction recovery as well as primary medical care, according to the Signature Health website .

Halasz is due back in court on May 16.
