Budget cuts to potentially create class size of 40+ students at Minneapolis schools
MINNEAPOLIS — Parents of incoming fourth grade students at Keewaydin Elementary School say they're concerned, frustrated, and hurt by the potential decision to cut a teacher, creating class sizes of at least 40 students.This comes as the district looks to cut $47 million from its annual budget – a budget that district leaders will vote on this upcoming week.Parents are hopeful by speaking up, it's not too late to make a change. Students wore sneakers, high heels, dress shoes and sandals. Some decorated their caps with inspirational quotes, flowers or butterflies. When they went across the stage to pick up their diploma, some waved, took selfies or tried to hide their face from the scores of cameras. Many took a few seconds to dance. Hanover Historical Society visits Hanover Elementary School
Fourth graders at Hanover Elementary School were treated to a personal history lesson on May 29 in conjunction with their local history curriculum. Mary Coons and Bob Miller of the Hanover Historical Society presented an interactive presentation to the students. Three major areas were discussed — a video of the founding of Hanover/historic bridge, Hanover’s country school and class routine and “Who’s Farm Do You Live On?,” which is a plat map of former farmland with an overlay of current housing developments. Students saw text books from the late 1800s, a school bell, clothes and other artifacts. The teachers enjoyed looking at the 1925 school year lesson plan books for educators. This is an annual visit as part of the historical society’s outreach and education.

Amid pomp and circumstance, Mound Westonka High School honored the 191 members of the 2024 graduating class May 29 at an outdoor ceremony on Haddorff Field.
