GRAND CANE, La. (KSLA) - Family, and friends celebrated the life of Mansfield native, Vida Blue. Blue passed away on May 6 in Northern California, at the age of 73. He was drafted by the then Kansas City Athletics in 1967. Upon arriving in the Bay Area, he instantly connected with the community. It was a relationship that stayed in place for decades.
Fuel Theft, Creek Contamination in Joaquin Under Investigation
June 2, 2023 - Law enforcement officials investigated a fuel theft Thursday, June 1, 2023, which resulted in the necessity of an environmental cleanup due to a spill. Roy Cheatwood, Constable Precinct 3, was initially contacted about the incident on East Saddle Street near a city lift station. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department was contacted by City of Joaquin officials to also respond to the location.

Recently the Red River Sheriff’s Office received reports of people receiving calls from a person falsely identifying himself as a Red River Parish Sheriff’s Deputy. They were advised that a recent law change to the sex offender registry requires offenders to re-register and that they are late on their registration.

Mansfield mayor arrested on DWI charge
MANSFIELD, La. - Mansfield Mayor Thomas Jones, 62, was arrested on a DWI charge early Saturday morning during a traffic stop. "It's a personal legal matter now. It has nothing to do with the operation of the city. I trust in the judicial system, and we'll litigate it in court," Jones said in a statement to KTBS.
Memorial Day Program Honors 231 Shelby County Soldiers
June 1, 2023 (Photo Album) - VFW Post 8904 and the Post Auxiliary hosted a Memorial Day Program honoring those Shelby County soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice. Attendees arriving at the John D. Windham Civic Center were greeted with flags of the Armed Services and the silhouettes of soldier leading up to the entrance. Post Member Mary Roberts served as the master of ceremony welcoming all, "Good morning and welcome this Memorial Day, May 29, 2023." She then introduced Pastor Josh Crawford, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, to give the invocation. Pastor Crawford opened his prayer saying, "Jesus, your Word says that there is no greater love than to lay down ones life for a friend. Today we pray for those men and women who have sacrificed their time, strength, bravery, health, and even their lives for friends, known and unknown."
