Scattered showers and storms remain possible through Memorial Day Weekend
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) - So far today, much of NCWV has evaded strong thunderstorms, despite them being present around our region thanks to an approaching cold front. That front will keep chances of strong storms alive in our area through tomorrow morning, when the front crosses and sags to our south. Not all of us will see severe storms; in fact, not all of us will see thunderstorms, period. But, isolated instances of damaging wind gusts and small hail remain possible for the entire area. With the front to our south on Thursday, we’re likely to see a dip in temperatures (back to around average). Thunderstorm activity will primarily ride along the front to our south, but some strays could still pop up in NCWV at any point during the day and night. Friday has the lowest potential for showers and storms in our area, but the potential is non-zero. Generally, expect clouds and sun on Friday with temperatures getting back to the low 80s. Saturday is once again another day where isolated thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon/evening hours, but not everyone will be affected; on this day, highest chances will be in the east. Sunday and Monday will follow a similar pattern of scattered shower and storm chances. The key takeaway for the Memorial Day Weekend forecast: while showers and storms will remain a potential all weekend, by no means will the weekend be a complete washout. Showers and storms that do arise will not last very long. Outdoor activities should be OK, but keep in mind a thunderstorm could blow through with heavy rain and gusty winds, pushing you inside for about 20-30 minutes.

Harrison County Service Personnel of the Year this week’s Davis and Elkins Excellence in Education
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) - “I was kind of shocked, I mean, I do my job and I take pride in doing my job. So, I hope to do the best that I can, but to have been acknowledged by all my co-workers and all the people that I know it’s been; it’s been quiet all inspiring. Most times Bus Drivers, Cooks, Aid’s, Custodian’s, are the first people these kids see when they come in; and lots of times they need a hug or need to have somebody hear them. They haven’t had a good morning, so we’re important in that way. Then the support that we give our teachers, that they’re able to the jobs that they were trained to do.”

Unseasonably warm temperatures continue Today and Wednesday before potentially severe storms return
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) - These high temperatures have been unseasonably high these past few days, getting up to the high 80s in the lowlands and even the high 70s in the higher elevations. These temperatures are well above seasonal average which is only in the mid 70s for the lowlands and the low 70s in the higher elevations. Wednesday night into the Thursday early morning hours sees a change in our weather however. While Wednesday there is potential for scattered rain showers throughout the day, some more severe weather chances are expected throughout our area towards the late evening hours. The more severe weather includes damaging winds and possible hailstorms as well. While these chances remain isolated it is still something to look out for throughout the night. This cold frontal passage will also drop our high temperatures quite significantly all the way down into the high 70s, which is just about seasonal average. Daniel Niemasz has all of this and more on your First Alert Forecast.
