MANDAN, ND ( KXNET ) — Wednesday was the last day of class for many students in Mandan, but it’s also the final year of classes in the high school.

Next fall, students and teachers will move into the new high school which is still under construction.

This week, many high schoolers are helping to pack up some of the goods that will be taken to the new building.

While students are excited, several teachers who graduated from Mandan are also saying goodbye to the building for good.

“The teaching business is really all about building relationships and that’s what I think of when I think back on either going to school here, or teaching, and just all the relationships that you build with students and other staff,” Mandan High School Social Studies Teacher Kurt Miller said.

“You know, you’re excited for having a brand new school and all the nice things that come with a brand new building,” Mandan High School Math Teacher Stacy Fitterer said. “But I mean, I’ve been in this room three years as a student and 34 more years as a teacher, so, you know, I’d say I spent more time of my life in this room probably than any other room at all.”

Mandan’s graduation will be this Sunday at 2 p.m.

On July 5, Mandan alumni are invited back to tour the old high school one last time. So far, the city hasn’t figured out what will happen to the old school.
