Riverhounds announce plans for new multi-field complex in North Huntingdon
NORTH HUNTINGDON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) -- The Pittsburgh Riverhounds have announced plans a new sports complex with indoor and outdoor soccer fields in North Huntingdon, Westmoreland County. The Riverhounds announced the news of the plans for the complex on their website on Thursday and say that it will held expand their footprint and support other organizations in the community. The new complex is expected to stretch across a 42-acre space just off of Route 30 near the Norwin Town Square shopping center and will feature a indoor soccer field and multiple outdoor soccer fields that can be used for other sports, as well."After seeing the way things have thrived since the opening of the AHN Montour Sports Complex in Coraopolis, we couldn't be more excited to be able to continue that growth with a new facility in North Huntingdon," Riverhounds owner Tuffy Shallenberger said. The facility will feature plenty of parking, lights over the outdoor fields, a concession stand, and bleachers at each field. The Riverhounds did not say when they anticipate the complex being ready to open to the public.

Emma DeSimone doubled twice and drove in three runs as No. 10 Thomas Jefferson knocked off No. 2 North Hills, 6-4, in the WPIAL Class 5A softball playoffs Wednesday. Allie Chalovich had two RBIs and Morgan Alisesky and Zoe Krivan each went 2 for 3 for the Jaguars (11-7), who will meet No. 11 Latrobe in the semifinals. Emma Culver went 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs for North Hills (14-5).

Heavy overnight rains and saturated grounds have forced Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Motor Speedway (PPMS) officials to cancel the Action Event scheduled for Saturday, May 18th. The Choice for Change event is rapidly approaching! On May 25th, our All Ways Safe Flagging and Traffic Control Young Gun competitors will take center spotlight as they race for their selected charitable cause. The winning driver will donate proceeds to their selected organization and celebrate with that organization in Victory Lane. They will be joined by the RUSH Sprint Cars, who will attempt their first visit to PPMS of the 2024 season. These two divisions will be joined by the Rohrich Parts Center / Chevrolet Performance RUSH Late Models, Pittsburgh Truck Center Penn Ohio Pro Stocks, Fuel Required Hobby Stocks, and Crawford Auto Repair Open Four Cylinders will make for a great night of racing at 'Dirt's Monster Half Mile!
Westmoreland high school notebook: Softball tripleheader on tap at Gateway
Local softball fans will get a treat Wednesday if they make a trip to Monroeville. There will be a playoff tripleheader at Gateway. Penn-Trafford will play Thomas Jefferson at 3 p.m. in one WPIAL 5A semifinal, followed by Hempfield and Norwin at 5 in a 6A semifinals, and Latrobe faces Thomas Jefferson at 7 in the other 5A semifinal.
Norwin notebook: Baseball, softball players earn all-section honors
The Big 5/6 Conference, which covers the top two classifications in WPIAL sports, released its all-section softball and baseball teams. Westmoreland County first-team picks from the lone Class 6A section included Norwin senior shortstop Bailey Snowberger and senior utilty player Brooklyn Kotch and Hempfield sophomore third baseman Lauren Howard, senior outfielder Maggie Howard and junior shortstop Allie Cervola.

10—To be honest, a slam dunk would be an understatement…it was more like a triple-double as some of Pittsburgh’s most invested and concerned citizens came together at the 3rd annual Achieving Greatness “What’s Going On Town Hall Forum!” The event was held Saturday, April 27, at the Hampton Inn located in Monroeville. The purpose is to bring together like-minded community leaders, educators and civil servants to discuss what’s going on in the Pittsburgh, Allegheny County and Western Pa. communities, both good and bad, in an attempt to improve our living conditions and quality of life for residents of all ages, races, sexes, social and political positions. SUSQUEHANNA, PA – Penn Can speedway celebrated the life of Bob Wildoner on a gorgeous Friday night. Alex Stanton redrew the pole with Tyler Yeagle to his outside. Yeagle would lead the opening circuit and hold off Stanton through a rough start with four cautions coming in the first four laps. Stanton would take the lead down the back stretch on lap 5, but couldn’t hold the spot at the line.
