According to the Massachusetts State Police, at around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Troopers were advised that Middleton Police were pursuing a red Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck operating erratically. The suspected operator, 37-year-old Joseph Kennedy of Malden, has a history of firearm offenses.
The pursuit was then picked up by Peadbody Police however it was terminated after nearly three miles. At around 4:27 p.m. Peabody officer found the suspected vehicle on Pulaski Street and attempted to pull it over with the help of a Massachusetts State Police K9 Unit.
Peabody Police terminated the pursuit in the area of Centre Street and I-95 in Danvers. The Trooper continued to follow the vehicle without the lights and siren. Middleton Police picked up the pursuit on Route 114 heading west.
The vehicle reversed direction in the area of Richardson’s Ice Cream and continued eastbound for a short distance, before pulling into the US Storage Centers facility. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop however, the driver rammed his truck through a metal fence and retaining wall, sending the vehicle airborne into a 10-foot drop into the parking lot of Minit Car Wash.
The suspect continued to drive eastbound on Route 114 before turning onto Cemetery Road in Danvers. He stopped the truck and ran on foot toward a wooded area. The State Police Trooper followed along a dirt trail in a cruiser and let his partner K9 Odin out, who was able to apprehend the suspect.
During the investigation, State Police determined that Kennedy had recently taken methamphetamine. He was taken to Beverly Hospital by ambulance for evaluation before being arrested on the following charges:
