Dairy Queen's Miracle Treat Day nets 32,820 Blizzards
In another successful celebration of its busiest day each year, Madison's Dairy Queen netted a grand total of 32,820 Blizzards for Miracle Treat Day on July 25. Dairy Queens across the nation participate in Miracle Treat Day annually to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network, and at participating locations, at least $1 from each Blizzard sale goes to this organization. Since their participation began 19 years ago, Madison's Dairy Queen has raised over $818,300 during the event, selling more Blizzards than any location in the country during that time.

The Madison Post 25 baseball team lost to Dell Rapids 6-1, in the semi’s of the Region 2B American Legion baseball tournament on Thursday. Dell Rapids took control early, scoring two runs in the 1st inning off a Madison error and a single from CJ Smith. Dell’s then scored a run in four consecutive innings starting in the 3rd. Madison’s lone run came on an error in the 6th.

Abby Callor joins Ellsworth Funeral Home as apprentice director
There's a new face at Ellsworth Funeral Home in Madison and Willoughby Funeral Home in Howard, with Abby Callor joining the team as an apprentice funeral director. Callor said that she's immensely excited for this opportunity as she works toward becoming a fully licensed funeral director through the Des Moines Area Community College’s mortuary science program. At the start of June, Callor and her husband Derek moved to Madison with their three daughters, with the family now living in the upstairs dwelling of the Ellsworth home.

Hay yield and quality varies across the Upper Great Plains
Rain has been a blessing for some hay producers and a curse for others in Nebraska and the Dakotas. According to University of Nebraska-Lincoln professor of agronomy and horticulture Jerry Volesky, yield for grass and alfalfa hay has been relatively high this year in central and eastern Nebraska, an area that has had much-needed rain after a long period of drought. Areas in the Nebraska Panhandle have seen comparatively lower hay yields due to not as much rain.

Alleged SD pedophile takes his own life when faced with arrest
CANOVA, SD (KELO.com) — The New York Post is reporting a disturbing story from South Dakota of an alleged pedophile killing himself earlier this week when confronted by a predator hunter. 60-year old Donald Letcher reportedly gave graphic detail of disturbing videos featuring children – including infants – to Predator Poachers Founder Alex Rosen. Rosen’s crew recorded enough to use as evidence and called in police, and persuaded Letcher to admit his crime to an officer. Letcher then walked inside his home and took his own life with a gun. Letcher was convicted of molesting a 9 year old girl in 1996, but that conviction was overturned.
