Town of Madison man dies in early morning fire

TOWN OF MADISON, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — A man from the Town of Madison died in an early morning fire on Monday, April 15.

According to Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies, 65-year-old Lonnie J. Gates died in the fire at 3688 Center Road in the Town of Madison around 1:36 a.m.

Firefighters from multiple local fire departments including the Madison Fire Department, the Hamilton Fire Department, the Hubbardsville Fire Department, the Waterville Fire Department, the Oriskany Falls Fire Department, the Eaton Fire Department, the North Brookfield Fire Department and the Morrisville Fire Department worked at stopping the fully involved structure fire.

Once the fire was out, fire investigators located Gates inside.

At this time, Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies say the fire does not appear suspicious.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in their investigation by all the previously mentioned fire departments, Madison County EMS and the Madison County Office of Emergency Management.
