BASD calls for tax increase in 2024-25 budget
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Bethlehem Area Board of School Directors on Monday voted to adopt the 2024-25 proposed budget calling for a 3% tax increase for property owners. "(This) budget keeps us where we want to be, managing the sacrifice throughout the organization and also some shared sacrifice in the community," said Superintendent Jack Silva.

Maxatawny Twp. crash kills Topton man
MAXATAWNY TWP., Pa. - The Berks County Coroner's Office pronounced a 67-year-old man dead at the scene of a two car accident that occurred late Saturday night. Pennsylvania State Police called to the scene at 11:44 p.m. Saturday say Jerry Gambler of Topton died after his vehicle failed to clear a stop sign at the intersection of Topton Road and Route 222 Northbound. Gambler's vehicle struck another vehicle which was driving on Route 222.
Trial scheduled for man accused of stabbing teen at Perkasie skatepark
A Pottstown man is headed to trial on charges stemming from a stabbing incident that occurred at a Perkasie skatepark last year. Court records show 20-year-old Nikolas Lore, formerly of Perkasie, has a trial scheduled for June 10 at 9 a.m. at the Bucks County Court of Common Pleas. He is charged with one felony count of aggravated assault and misdemeanor counts of possessing an instrument of crime, simple assault, and reckless endangerment, stemming from the alleged incident.

EMMAUS, Pa. – The East Penn School District Board of Directors received an update on the 2024-25 proposed budget Monday night. The proposed $197.8 million spending plan calls for more than $2 million in new district spending to address staffing priorities, according to the district administration. The staffing priorities comprise about 1.8% of a proposed 5% property tax increase included in the 2024-25 spending plan.
