Harlem School District receives $800K for new clean energy buses
MACHESNEY PARK, Ill. (WIFR) - Harlem School District students will receive new buses after winning funds from a state-wide rebate competition. On Thursday, Harlem received $800,000 in rebate funding from the EPA’s 2023 Clean School Bus Program. The school will purchase four new clean energy school buses with the money.

Rockford 5th graders test engineering processes in annual Maker Expo
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - Fifth-grade students at Haskell Elementary in Rockford use engineering skills to research, plan and build projects for the 3rd annual Maker Expo. On Thursday, teams of about 2-3 students presented their self-chosen projects at Haskell’s STEAM Academy, 515 Maple Street. The projects included a periscope, a volcano, roller coaster and more.

Rockford's Keith Country Day School holds 51st graduation
Keith Country Day School hosted its 51st commencement ceremony Friday, May 31, 2024, at the Tebala Event Center, 7910 Newburg Road, in Rockford. There were 13 graduates. Some of the schools graduates will attend in the fall include the University of Wisconsin, McGill University, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of California-San Diego, University of Illinois-Chicago and University of Pittsburgh.

Keith Country Day School senior Gianna Epperson is the Rockford Register Star Student of the Week for May 27-31. She collected 55% of more than 28,000 votes. Epperson is a musician, an active member of the Model United Nations team, and a member of the Tri-M Honors Society. She is also nearing completion of training for her private pilot's license at the Poplar Grove Flight Training School and plans to major in aeronautical science at Embry Riddle University in Daytona Beach, Florida.
