He departed it persuaded by coach Robert Danielson to enter the Rochester, New York, meet's Class 3A boys event. Whatever disappointment Grande harbored was gone by the time the Royals returned home from Genesee Valley Park. The senior’s winning time of 15 minutes, 12.50 seconds was more than 18 seconds faster than that race's silver medalist, Thomas Steele of meet host McQuaid Jesuit. The 61 st annual meet has long been deemed a prestigious one for this region of the country, which further bolstered Grande’s accomplishment. “Even though I wasn’t in the premiere race, it was still super cool to come to that meet and (win),” he said. “I knew I was going to run a good time because my legs felt good. As for my confidence, this (result) backed up my physical capabilities. “That mindset is going to help me a lot for (the postseason).” Grande not only won’t travel outside Pennsylvania for his next meet start, he also won’t leave Erie County.
