Lueders man is accused of 2 counts of Criminal Attempt of Capital Murder to officer or fireman

ABILENE, Texas ( KTAB/KRBC ) – A Lueders man was arrested Monday, accused of the attempted murder of a peace officer or fireman.

Johnnie Leon Barnett, 77, of Lueders was arrested Monday afternoon by Taylor and Jones counties authorities on two Shackelford County charges of Criminal Attempt Capital Murder of a Peace Officer or Fireman.

Shackelford County Sheriff Ed Miller told KTAB/KRBC Barnett attempted to run him over as he was standing outside of his vehicle on Wednesday, March 27. The suspect hit the sheriff’s vehicle just before hitting another deputy’s vehicle head-on.

Sheriff Miller detailed that nobody was injured in this incident. Barnett was taken to a hospital where he stayed until his arrest by Jones and Taylor counties on Monday.
