The Weird Space set to host Mom Prom on May 18

LUBBOCK, Texas — The Weird Space is set to host a Mom Prom on May 18 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at 3225 50th Street B-1.

A press release said the event will include an opportunity to shop with local vendors, dance the night away with a local DJ, light snacks and the full prom experience.

Marina Huber, mother and business owner said she will be out at the Mom Prom as a vendor for her hat business that is geared towards moms like her.

Huber said, “I love to dance and I think, you know, it’s different when you’re dancing to little kids songs. So I’m excited to listen to some bops and yeah, dance the night away.”

Owner of The Weird Space and organizer of the Mom Prom, Destiny Adams said it is important to have an event like this because being a mom takes a lot of hard work.

Adams said, “I feel like it’s so important to have that time set aside to still kind of live your life and have fun and have good, wholesome fun. And so the idea behind Mom Prom was a night for moms to be absolutely dorky, true to themselves, and have a safe space to, you know, dress casual, wear a prom dress if you want to do whatever you want and have fun around other moms.”

Adams mentioned this is also a good time for mothers on social medias like Facebook can actually meet and talk face to face.

Adams said, “but when’s the actual time you get to meet up in person? I feel like we’re all on these Facebook groups always chatting about rashes and bottles and best sippy cups and best daycares. And I want to see us in person. You can talk to me about those things, but I hope you can actually come and make friends as a mom and build a support group.”

The Weird Space said Mom Prom is aimed to be an inclusive event for all moms and mom figures. To make that possible the tickets are “pay what you can.”
