AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — MyHighPlains.com reached out to WT about the Kevin Gates concert being relocated to Lubbock, and received the following response from WT officials on Tuesday: “The concert was never booked through proper procedures, so it was never officially happening.”

    Original Story:

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Saturday, May 4th marked what would’ve been a big day for the area’s entertainment scene, however, the anticipated Kevin Gates concert has been recently moved to the Lone Star Amphitheater in Lubbock on June 22, organizers announced.

The concert was originally scheduled to take place at the First United Banking Center in Canyon but has been rescheduled for June 22 at the Lone Star Amphitheater due to unexpected venue changes and high demand, according to organizers.

For individuals who purchased tickets to the Amarillo show, organizers noted that the tickets will be honored at the Lubbock concert.

But many Amarillo fans want to know what caused the recent concert shift.

“We had some bad business at our first venue,” said Gabe Morgan, Co-owner of A+ Records in Amarillo, one of the promoters for the concert. “Unfortunately things didn’t work out the way we wanted it to.”

Morgan told KAMR Local 4 News that after the unexpected change, they decided to move the concert to the Azteca Music Hall in Amarillo. Sales were good, but in the end, they simply didn’t have enough room.

“Because the Amarillo community is so supportive, you all bought so many tickets and showed us so much love even after what happened at our first venue, we just didn’t have enough room for everyone,” Morgan explained.

Morgan said they couldn’t find a venue big enough on such short notice so they did the next best thing.

“What was best for us, what was best for the community and everyone who wanted to go, was to move it to the Lone Star Amphitheater in Lubbock,” he expressed.

The show is now scheduled to take place on June 22 at the Lone Star Amphitheater in Lubbock and organizers also added a popular up-and-coming artist to the show.

“We’ve also added BigXthaPlug on the lineup, and several other special artists,” Morgan told KAMR.

If you’ve already purchased a ticket to the Amarillo show, Morgan assures no worries, because you already have everything you need.

“For all of our Amarillo people that still want to go to the show, there’s no need to re-purchase a ticket. Everyone that already has a ticket from the Amarillo show, is more than welcome to come to the show in Lubbock. In addition to that, we’re going to get you a gift bag with artist stuff, t-shirts, posters, we’re also going to give you a special VIP section that will only be for the Amarillo crowd,” he said.

Morgan said he and his team completely understand the frustration from some people due to the multiple switch-ups, but added that they’re thankful for all of the support.

“We just really appreciate you from the bottom of our hearts. and it means everything to us that you’re more than willing to rock with us even after multiple venue changes,” he thanked.

We also spoke with some fans who’d already purchased tickets for the Amarillo show but declined to be seen on camera. Some said they’ll go to the Lubbock show because they love the artist lineup. However, other individuals told us they either don’t want to travel, or they can’t attend because of previous obligations.

You can get tickets here, or at Phone Medic stores in Amarillo, Canyon and Lubbock, or at Ralph’s Records in Lubbock.

KAMR has reached out to WT about the cancellation at FUBC, but staff have not heard back from the university. The story will be updated as additional information has been obtained.
