LUBBOCK, Texas — The “Chilton” was added to Southern Living, a lifestyle magazine last month as a drink on its cocktail section of the website.

Although the cocktail’s origin is truly unknown, a local legend says it was invented by Dr. Chilton at Lubbock Country Club. On a hot day, Dr. Chilton requested the bartender to combine lemon juice, vodka and soda water, finished with a salted rim and a lemon wheel.

Southern Living shared Lubbock Country Club’s recipe for the West Texas drink and mentioned it could be made with ingredients you are likely to have in your kitchen.

The recipe Southern Living shared is below:

    • 1 1/2 oz. vodka, such as Tito’s (about 1 shot)
    • 2 oz. fresh lemon juice
    • Soda water, chilled
    • Lemon wheel for garnish
    • Salt rim

The recipe recommends starting with a salted rim for the full Chilton experience. Next, fill the glass with ice and add vodka and fresh lemon juice. Finish the drink off with a lemon wheel, and enjoy!
