The body reportedly came to the surface after being disturbed by a machine cleaning debris from the river.

A man’s body that appeared to have been submerged for an extended amount of time was pulled from a river in Lowell on Saturday, according to local reports.

The body was found after it was apparently disturbed by a machine cleaning debris from the Concord River on Saturday, the Middlesex District Attorney’s office told The Boston Globe.

Police were called to the area of Lawrence Street at about 2:50 p.m. Saturday and found the corpse fully clothed, The Sun reported.

Preliminary investigation showed that the body was likely in the water for some time.

The case will be referred to the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to identify the person and the manner and cause of his death, the Globe reported.

The Middlesex D.A.’s office was not able to be reached for further information Sunday afternoon.
