Louisville hosting 'school's out' party in town playground

School is out for the summer, and Louisville is bringing the community together to celebrate June 4. Town staff have coordinated the first “School’s Out Party in the Park” from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the town playground.

The event will boast free face painting and snow cones for children, music and a bounce house, organizer Hailey Russell said. Russell is the town’s administrative assistant, but she also coordinates local events. Her last major event was the town’s fall festival, which she described as a “big success.”

For this summer’s celebration, Russell said the town plans to have four food trucks for guests to purchase refreshments: Geno’s Crusty Crab, Food and Company, Sweet Tooth Ice Cream and SnoBiz. Staff will also have games planned for children, with events including sack races and three-legged races on a half-hour schedule.

The Blount County Fire Protection District will bring fire trucks, and Russell said the Blount County Sheriff’s Office may also perform K-9 demonstrations for guests. The Blount County Public Library will also be present, teaching guests how to use the library locker at the town hall next door.

The playground is next to Louisville Town Hall at 3623 Louisville Road.

The event is open to the public, and Russell said you don’t have to be a Louisville resident to attend. The idea, she said, is to bring more community events to the town. Events like this are part of a push by Louisville Mayor Jill Pugh to increase community involvement. For example, Russell said the town is partnering with the library to host story time events for kids every other Wednesday at 2 p.m. this summer.

More events will come later in the year.

“We have at least three events planned for this year,” she said. “There’s this one, and then there’s the fall festival and Christmas parade.”

Next year, she said, town staff hope to host a spring event for the community as well.
