LOS BANOS, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A Chowchilla man was arrested in Los Banos after allegedly stealing a vehicle from San Jose and other documents, the Los Banos Police Department said on Tuesday.

Officers say they responded to the area of the 100 block of West J Street for a report of a suspicious man looking into vehicles and removing paper from a truck around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The suspect was described as wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, black cap, and jean pants.

Upon arrival, police say they contacted 30-year-old Fabian Genchi of Chowchilla inside a tan Cadillac Escalade. He had approximately 11 warrants out for his arrest and was detained. The Escalade was a reported stolen vehicle out of San Jose and was “cold plated” with a suspected stolen license plate out of Los Banos.

According to investigators, several pieces of suspected stolen property were also collected. This includes checks, documents, and a tablet. Officers suspected there was methamphetamine on Genchi’s person.

Genchi, according to detectives, was ultimately placed under arrest and booked at the Los Banos Police Department under suspicion of possession of stolen property, tampering with a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and 11 active warrants.

Officers say Genchi is also the suspect in several burglary cases in Los Banos, and a recent vehicle pursuit.
