The Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollywood Narcotics Division officers along with multiple joint task force officers were working to clear a small drug lab in the 1700 block of North Fuller Avenue.

The lab was discovered when the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the location for reports of a strong chemical odor at approximately 1:21 p.m. Fire personnel alerted the LAPD who responded and confirmed a “DMT” (Dimenthyltryptamine) lab at the location. DMT is a hallucinogenic tryptamine drug that is illegal to make, buy, possess or distribute, according to sources.

One person was taken into custody by officers at the scene. An LAPD lieutenant stated that the initial concern was that of a fire hazard, and possible chemical exposure to nearby residents at the building and surrounding area.

“The strong smell of acetone and ammonia is what neighbors reported smelling to authorities,” said an LAPD lieutenant off camera.

Officers worked into the night to clear the apartment and remove the hazardous materials. All of the items were also cataloged and photographed.

A “California Department of Justice Division of Law Enforcement” vehicle was observed in front of the location as seen in Key News Network video from the scene.

Los Angeles County Health Hazmat responded to collect the items to be disposed.

There is no further information at this time.
