The Los Angeles Rams released wide receiver Ben Skowronek Thursday morning. A fan favorite for his toughness and versatility in playing numerous roles for the Los Angeles Rams, Skowronek was a seventh-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and became a team captain in 2023.

However, that wasn't enough to make the Rams' roster. According to The Athletic's Diana Russini, the team moved on Thursday morning. This move brings the Rams' roster to an even 90 players after adding 10 draft picks and 26 rookies.

Skowronek was a key special teamer and depth player for the Rams, and even embraced playing fullback to add another dimension to McVay's offense.

This move helps clear the way for Jordan Whittington, who will likely take over that spot as a key STer and WR4 for the team. While it's unfortunate for Skowronek, who deserved his flowers for being an underrated playmaker, Whittington has the better draft capital behind him and is a better athlete.

The two would have had a role overlap on the team. Releasing him this early allows Skowronek to land on another team and spend the summer working with a new team instead of releasing him during roster cuts when every team is trying to trim their roster.
