The much-anticipated Automated People Mover under construction at Los Angeles International Airport just got significantly more expensive.

In order to settle disputes between the project’s contractor, LAX Integrated Express Solutions, and Los Angeles World Airport, the Board of Airport Commissioners approved an additional $200 million, LAist reports .

Big changes proposed for LAX ahead of World Cup, Olympics

This brings the total price tag to $2.9 billion, and though the project is reportedly 97% complete , it isn’t expected to open to the public until 2025 at the earliest .

With a bevy of high-profile international sporting events slated to begin the year after that, airport officials could be running out of time to have everything in place ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2028 Olympic Games.

Other proposed changes for LAX include organization changes, such as renumbering the terminals to make the airport more intuitive.
