    At least 55 injured after horror smash between Los Angeles Metro and University of Southern California bus

    At least 55 people were hurt and two of them were critically injured in a collision between a University of Southern California bus and a Los Angeles Metro Rail train, according to officials.

    The crash happened around noon Watt Way and Exposition Boulevard in the Exposition Park neighborhood. Metro police said the accident was due to a USC shuttle bus crossing into the path of a southbound Metro E Line train. Firefighters and paramedics said nearly 55 people were injured.

    Of the dozens hurt, two were said to be in serious conditions and were transported to a nearby hospital. Only about 16 people, who were also taken to a hospital, were determined to be in fair condition and the remaining 37 had minor injuries and were released on scene.

    14 of those individuals who were treated at the hospital were reportedly aboard the Metro train. The other two people were said to be on the USC shuttle. Authorities said no children had to be treated at the hospital this afternoon.

    "Metro offers its sympathies to those injured during this accident," the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority said in a statement Tuesday.

    "This is what we call walking wounded," said LAFD Capt. Adam Van Gerpen. "They were able to walk off the train. We set up triage areas where our paramedics and EMTs were able to evaluate them."

    Police signaled the accident could've resulted in more deaths as 150 were aboard the Metro Rail train."I got thrown from my chair to the other chair," said Arlene Hayes, a passenger on the Metro train. "My whole left side is sore."

    The inquiry into the crash's cause is still ongoing. The train's front windshield was said to be cracked , and the bus's front section looked to have sustained substantial damage.

    Between Figueroa and Bill Robertson Lane, both directions of Exposition Boulevard were blocked. Until further notice, Metro says, there will only be single tracking between Vermont Station and 23rd St. Station.

    The damaged train stayed on the tracks, but a bus bridge was also erected to assist Metro commuters in passing through the region. On Monday, In the course of a single day, two distinct collisions on the same Antelope Valley route claimed six lives.

    The California Highway Patrol reports that the first crash occurred on Highway 138 at 106th Street East in the Littlerock region shortly after 8 p.m. on Sunday.

    There were two automobiles involved in the fatal crash, albeit there were few details available. Four occupants in one car and a lone driver in the other perished, according to the CHP.
