NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (TCD) -- A 45-year-old homeless man is in custody on suspicion of fatally stabbing a woman in her 60s on a Los Angeles Metro train this week.

On Monday, April 22, at approximately 5 a.m., the Los Angeles Police Department received a report of a possible stabbing at the Universal City Station. The suspect, later identified as Elliot Nowden, allegedly attacked the victim on the train. According to KTLA-TV, Nowden used two small kitchen knives to stab the woman in the neck.

The bloodied victim reportedly got off the train at the Universal City Station near Universal Studios and Nowden fled on foot. Metro security personnel attempted lifesaving measures and the Los Angeles Fire Department transported the woman to the hospital, but she died from her wounds.

The suspect and the victim reportedly had never met before the incident.

Police Det. Meghan Aguilar told KTLA, "This does appear to be completely unprovoked from what witnesses have told detectives. There was no altercation prior to this violent attack."

Los Angeles Metro posted that they paused service to Universal/Studio City on the day of the incident "due to police activity."

According to police, North Hollywood patrol officers found Nowden on April 22 at around 5:30 a.m. and took him into custody. He was booked on a charge of murder and remains held on $2 million bail.

Police suspect Nowden might have additional unreported victims.
