The Dodgers recalled pitcher Eduardo Salazar from Triple-A Oklahoma City for the first time prior to Tuesday’s game against the Washington Nationals.

Salazar and right-hander Kyle Hurt, who’s starting the middle game of the three-game series, will take the place of right-handers Nick Ramirez and Ricky Vanasco on the Dodgers’ pitching staff. Ramirez and Vanasco were optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to the game. Hurt and Salazar were recalled.

The Dodgers also recalled outfielder Andy Pages and designated outfielder Taylor Trammell for assignment.

Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic was first to report the news of Salazar’s impending arrival:

Salazar, 25, made three starts for Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, going 1-0 with a 2.87 earned-run average. He struck out nine batters across 15.2 innings with a 1.28 WHIP.

The right-hander has made eight major league appearances in his career, all last season with the Cincinnati Reds, going 1-0 with an 8.03 ERA. The Dodgers signed Salazar to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training on Nov. 16, 2023.

Last season with the Reds, Salazar flashed a sinker, slider, changeup, and a four-seam fastball that averaged 93.5 mph according to Statcast .

Salazar made three Cactus League appearances with the Dodgers, all as a reliever. He allowed five hits, two runs, four walks, and struck out four batters in three innings before he was reassigned to minor league camp.

A native of Venezuela, Salazar is not on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster. The team will need to make a corresponding move in order to add him to their active roster.

The Dodgers will also be announcing rosters moves to accommodate two other players arriving from Triple-A : outfielder Andy Pages and pitcher Kyle Hurt. Both players are starting Tuesday’s game against the Nationals.
