The Dodgers could get back one of their best pitchers as soon as next week. According to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, if Walker Buehler’s fourth rehab start goes well on Thursday, he could return to a major league mound for the first time since June 10, 2022 as early as next week.

Buehler underwent a second major elbow surgery in 2022 after making 12 starts. His rehab has been a long process, but the club wants to make sure he is fully healthy before returning.

Last week, his third rehab start was cut short after he took a line drive off his throwing hand. Thankfully, this was nothing serious and Buehler said he would make his next rehab start.

With Bobby Miller on the injured list and Emmet Sheehan not expected back any time soon, the Dodgers rotation has looked thin of late. Adding a former All-Star would help this team not only in the quality of pitching, but quantity.

If he can reach that 90-pitch mark, Buehler will effectively have the runway of a fully built-up starter when he returns. That would allow the bullpen to get some much-needed rest — assuming he’s effective enough to go deep into games.
