Early election returns showed two candidates affiliated with the Republican-aligned “Common Sense Crew” leading their races for the Western Placer Unified School District board, where disputes over politically charged issues have drawn attention to local education politics. Those disputes have included a Turning Point USA club associated with conservative activist Charlie Kirk, the cancellation of an ethnic studies course midway through the semester and disagreements over the use of the novel “The Hate U Give” in classrooms. Three Citrus Heights City Council incumbents held leads in early election returns Wednesday morning, with Mayor MariJane Lopez-Taff and Councilmember Jayna Karpinski-Costa ahead of their challengers and Vice Mayor Porsche Middleton running unopposed. The results offered an early indication of voter support for the city’s current leadership as Citrus Heights faced decisions about the redevelopment of Sunrise Mall, police staffing and economic growth. Lopez-Taff led challenger Charles Stone with 61.6% of the vote in the 2nd District, while Karpinski-Costa held 56.3% in the 4th District against Susan Powers, according to unofficial election results. Middleton, who faced no opponent in the 5th District, had received 99.3% of the vote. The results were preliminary, with additional ballots remaining to be counted. Roseville City Council results: Who leads in the 2nd and 4th districts?

Four candidates are competing for two open seats on the Roseville City Council Tuesday, with voters in the city’s 2nd and 4th districts choosing replacements for departing council members. As of 8:02 p.m., Anne Carpenter had 62% of the vote in the 2nd District, compared with 37% for David Nelson, according to unofficial Placer County election results . In the 4th District, Rick Bartee had 72% of the vote, while Michael Dean Franks had 27%. The initial results reflect ballots mailed before Election Day, with additional votes remaining to be counted. Neither race has an incumbent. Councilmember Pauline Roccucci is leaving the 2nd District seat, while Councilmember Krista Bernasconi is departing the 4th District. Sacramento-area salad, rice bowl restaurant to open second location in Roseville

With its beginnings in Elk Grove, a salad and rice bowl restaurant is launching its second location after several months of business. Bohl, which specializes in healthy-food options, is opening a new restaurant at 10357 Fairway Drive in Roseville. The location will open in 2027, according to its instagram. The business is owned by Hailey and Kyle Garret, a married couple who used to run Dutch Bros Coffee franchises in Northern California. The two have been business owners since 2015 and decided to open their own restaurant, they said in an online post. “Through it all, we longed for a place that was fast, customizable, and made with real, high-quality ingredients —a spot where we could eat often and actually feel good about it,” the couple wrote. “But we couldn’t find exactly what we were looking for. So, we decided to create it ourselves.” The Garrets open the first Bohl at 9257 Laguna Springs Drive in March.
