LONGVIEW, Texas ( KETK ) – The Longview Fire Department said that three cats were killed and three residents were displaced after a fire burned an apartment building on Sunday.

Illinois man arrested for theft of more than $30,000 in Longview

The department said they responded to the fire at 1400 HG Mosley Parkway around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday. The first unit on scene was Medic 5 and they tried to put out the fire with an extinguisher.

Then a fire engine arrived and the fire was brought under control, but not before the fire burned the second floor of the apartment building leaving three people displaced, around $100,000 in damage and three cats dead, according to Longview FD.

Officials said the fire appeared to start in the kitchen of a second floor apartment and was contained to the second floor. The floor below did reportedly receive significant water damage.

The American Red Cross has responded to the scene to assist the three displaced residents.
