On Mother’s Day, Macaj hiked his way up to the summit of Long’s Peak, which is the highest point in Rocky Mountain National Park. Upon reaching the top, he texted his friend just after 1 p.m. that he reached the top, he hasn’t been heard from since. Rocky Mountain National Park Rangers stated that the terrain and weather in that area is tough. Kyle Patterson, the Public Affairs Officer for the Rocky Mountain National Park, says “this is very much winter mountaineering conditions on Longs Peak and above tree line... You have significant exposure, you’re going to have a mix of deep snow as well as wind drifted snow and ice below that and you’re gonna have a mix of rocks and boulders, so certainly going up and down that steep terrain is extremely challenging”.
