Early morning fatal motorcycle crash
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — The Grand Junction Police and Fire Departments responded to a single motorcycle crash early Friday morning. Police and fire personnel arrived at the area of North 1st Street and Ouray Avenue around 4:30 a.m. Friday. The motorcyclist, an adult male, was declared dead after being taken to the hospital. The roads were closed for several hours while officials responded but have since reopened.

Arrest made in connection to Woodspring Suites fatal stabbing
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - The Grand Junction Police Department (GJPD) continued investigation efforts of a homicide that happened on May 14th. The incident occurred around approximately 8:50 p.m. at the Woodspring Suites located at 659 Market Street. The GJPD received a report of an unresponsive male, upon arrival the male was discovered with a suspected knife wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene. The man was later identified as 38-year-old Dustin Nalls of Parachute, Colorado.
Free Public School Meal Program is More Costly than the State Anticipated
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) -The Healthy School Meals for All Program started this school year. Every student, regardless of income, receives free breakfast and lunch during the school year. The program was approved by voters in 2022 and is paid for by a change in the income tax of people who make more than $300,000 a year.

Body of missing Colorado Springs hiker found on Longs Peak
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - 23-year-old Lucas Macaj was stationed at Schriever Space Force Base. On Mother’s Day, Macaj hiked his way up to the summit of Long’s Peak, which is the highest point in Rocky Mountain National Park. Upon reaching the top, he texted his friend just after 1 p.m. that he reached the top, he hasn’t been heard from since. Rocky Mountain National Park Rangers stated that the terrain and weather in that area is tough. Kyle Patterson, the Public Affairs Officer for the Rocky Mountain National Park, says “this is very much winter mountaineering conditions on Longs Peak and above tree line... You have significant exposure, you’re going to have a mix of deep snow as well as wind drifted snow and ice below that and you’re gonna have a mix of rocks and boulders, so certainly going up and down that steep terrain is extremely challenging”.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - Warming will continue through this weekend, then some slight cooling shuts down that warming trend early next week. Snow in the mountains is still more than fifty feet deep along the Continental Divide. There are some small areas where snow depth is still near 100 feet. The snow is melting, and the warming this week and next week is going to speed up the melting. Melting snow is running off into the rivers, so river levels are rising.
