GLOUSTER — You usually want to be playing your best ball once the regular season winds down, heading into the playoffs. For Trimble, the Tomcats (14-4, 6-3 Tri-Valley Conference have been borderline unstoppable over the past few weeks with the postseason right over the horizon.

Winning its eighth-straight contest on Friday afternoon, Trimble took down Logan in a low-scoring, 3-1 battle in an impressive pitchers duel. The Tomcats have not lost since April 19.

Bradley Cahoe would dominate on the mound, grabbing the win for the Tomcats after an impressive complete game performance. He would allow just three hits and one unearned run, striking out five while allowing just two walks.

At the plate, Bennie Warren would lead the offensive charge with a 2-3 day at the plate, driving in a pair of runs while scoring one himself. Brandon Burdette and Chayse Henry would each grab two hits while Paul Sharp had the team’s only other hit. Owen Sikorski would also score a run for Trimble.

For the Chieftains (10-11), Lucas Wolfe would also toss an impressive outing in a complete game performance but ultimately took the loss. Wolfe would allow seven hits and three earned runs, striking out nine while allowing just two walks in his six innings of work.

Christian VanBibber would rack up two of Logan’s three hits on the day. Cody Hartman would tally the only other hit while scoring the Chieftains’ lone run.

After a perfect opening frame from both sides, each team would get runners on base in the second but couldn’t capitalize on the moment. The score would stay stagnant at zeroes up until the bottom of the fourth inning.

In that frame, Sikorski would reach base on a walk two batters before Warren singled the catcher in for the first run of the afternoon.

Logan would eventually tie things up in the final moments in the top of the sixth in part due to some miscues from Trimble’s defense. After a walk put a runner on base, Burdette would commit an error on a ground ball off the bat of Leiland Everett that would allow Hartman to come in with the tying run.

It wouldn’t take long for the Tomcats to respond. Leading off the bottom of the frame, consecutive doubles from Henry and Warren would bring in what would become the game-winning run. Later in the inning, Trimble would grab an insurance run when Warren was able to steal home.

Cahoe would allow one runner on in the top of the seventh but would settle down quickly, striking out the final two batters as Trimble secured the victory.
