A second-place finish at Capitol Conference mini meet No. 6 highlighted the week for the Lodi boys’ golf team.

Held Thursday, May 2, at Lake Mills Golf Club, the Blue Devils dealt with a challenging course.

“We played the very tricky front nine,” said Lodi head coach David Zilker. “The team shot a 168, with Walter Beld shooting a very nice 38 even though he started with a double on the first hole. Kogen Baron shot a nice 41 followed very closely by sophomore Trevor Kutz. Trevor had a great run of six pars in a row. Freshman Jesse Munson helped out with a 47.”

Two days later, Lodi participated in the MACC Fund Invitational at Erin Hills, where Beld set the tone by firing a 7-over 79.

“Walter started on the back nine and shot even par, but when he made the turn to the front he was seven over — still a stellar round of golf,” said Zilker. “The Baron brothers, Kogen and Sawyer, did a great job helping the team shooting an 84 and an 86, respectively. Younger brother Sawyer got close to going lower than big brother, but not yet! Trevor Kutz shot a 91 on the beautiful and very windy Erin Hills golf course.”

Next up was the Spartan Invitational at Blackhawk on Monday, May 6.

“Lodi played in the Spartan Invitational at the lovely and very narrow Blackhawk Country Club,” said Zilker. “Walter Beld shot an 83 with nine pars. Kogen Baron shot an 86 also with nine pars. Trevor Kutz shot an 89 with five pars and knocking in two birdies! Freshman Jacey Heinzmann shot a 92 with 3 pars and a birdie of her own.”
