Multiple storm systems are likely to impact Tompkins County this week, with rarely a dry day to be had as we head into the middle of the month. For what it’s worth, temps will warm up somewhat and be fairly comfortable, so at least you won’t be shivering or sweating as you dodge the rain drops this week. No major weather disruptions are anticipated in the next seven days.

A house in Ovid that sold for $675,000 tops the list of the most expensive residential real estate sales in Seneca County between Apr 20 and May 10. In total, nine residential real estate sales were recorded in the county during the past three weeks, with an average price of $227,349. The average price per square foot was $153.
Aurora Will Intensify Again During Mother’s Day
Looks like Mother Nature is giving us a gift this Mother’s Day! The ongoing geomagnetic storms will intensify again on Sunday, May 12th, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Space Weather Prediction Center. “Severe to extreme geomagnetic storming is possible again later today,” NOAA reported.

ITHACA, N.Y. — The Northern Lights, or aurora borealis, may be visible in the area over the weekend thanks to a large geomagnetic storm. People across the northern United States reported seeing the sky-bound phenomenon Friday night, though conditions were cloudy and rainy in Tompkins County for most of the evening.

Two people hurt in Trumansburg tractor crash
ITHACA, N.Y. — An overturned tractor crash left an adult and a child injured Monday afternoon in Trumansburg, according to a press release from Trumansburg Fire. Trumansburg Fire lieutenant Alix Gresov said first responders were called to Route 96 for a report of a tractor crash with two people trapped underneath the vehicle. When responders arrived, a neighbor was trying to free the two people from the tractor.
Wells College update: Here’s how many employees will lose their jobs when the college closes
Aurora, N.Y. -- Wells College has made it official: 141 workers will lose their jobs when the college closes for good on May 31. The private, liberal arts college on the banks of Cayuga Lake did not say how many employees would be let go when it announced April 29 that it will permanently close at the end of its academic year due to a decline in student enrollment and years of financial struggles.

Rain moving south of the area Thursday night will tend to lift northward, giving us a wet end to the work week. This means we’ll see showers around for the opening day of the Lilac Festival, and temperatures in the mid 50s with lots of clouds. The Finger Lakes will see the most persistent rain showers, while areas north and west of Rochester will tend to see some drier weather on Friday. The steadiest rain will move out overnight, leading to a dry start to the weekend.
