Three Collin County Cities Rank Among The Nation’s Best For Kids

T hree Collin County cities are standing out nationally for conditions that can shape childhood well-being. Frisco ranked No. 1, Plano No. 2 and McKinney No. 4 in ProCare Therapy’s 2026 Childhood Well-being Index. The study compared 100 of the largest U.S. cities using five measures tied to children’s health, education and everyday environment: child poverty, chronic school absenteeism, third-grade reading proficiency, lead-exposure risk and access to public parks. Irvine, California, was the only city outside North Texas to break into the top four, ranking third. Frisco earned an overall score of 89.8, narrowly edging Plano at 89.6. McKinney received 82.6. How Frisco Ranked No. 1 Education was one of Frisco’s strongest measures. According to ProCare Therapy’s analysis, 89.4% of Frisco third graders were proficient in reading, the highest percentage among the cities included in the study. The city also recorded a 3.9% child poverty rate and 5.6% chronic absenteeism rate, while falling into the study’s lowest category for lead-exposure risk. But Frisco didn’t lead in every category. The study found that 57.5% of residents live within a 10-minute walk of a public park, leaving room for improvement compared with cities that scored higher for park access.
