Tropical Storm Rachel Expected to Impact Southern California and Surrounding States | Complex Setup

Once again, the setup remains to be very complex, so it is no surprise that the track remains difficult to pin down with now almost two areas of shift possible. A cutoff low, an upper level trough, and what remains of Rachel all have to interact, with their timing and positioning playing a major role in how this unfolds. Even small changes could shift where the deepest moisture moves, where the lifting mechanism is, where thunderstorms develop, and which areas receive the heaviest rainfall. That is why individual model runs can show noticeably different outcomes. Confidence should improve as these features evolve, but the exact track and rainfall totals still have room to change still.

The One Crispy Apple I'm Choosing Over Honeycrisp Right Now

Learn about an apple variety that is super crisp and firm that I am getting at apple orchards over Honeycrisp this month. It took a long time from when the Crimson Crisp apple was first bred until it was available to be grown commercially. It was first developed in the 1970s by the PRI (Purdue, Rutgers, and Illnois) co-operative. It wasn't until 2006 that the apple was released for growers. That is a long time in the development process. You don't get rich quick by developing a new apple variety!

Lining Your Oven With Foil Could Cost You Your Life, Experts Warn

A sheet of aluminum foil on the oven floor might seem like an easy way to catch bubbling cheese, pie filling and other spills. But appliance manufacturers warn that this cleanup shortcut can create a fire hazard -- and, in a gas oven, a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

This Custard Pie Magically Forms Its Own Crust

Magic crust custard pie earns its name by accomplishing something that feels almost impossible: a simple batter separates as it bakes, creating a delicate crust and creamy custard center without rolling or fitting pastry dough. The top becomes lightly golden while the inside stays soft, smooth, and gently sweet. Nutmeg or vanilla gives the filling its familiar old-fashioned aroma, and the thin crust provides just enough structure to hold a clean slice. It is an ideal dessert for anyone who loves homemade pie but would happily skip the most intimidating part of preparing one.

Three-Ingredient Lemon Bars Turn Almost No Prep Into Bright, Sweet, Melt-in-Your-Mouth Dessert Squar

These three-ingredient lemon bars prove you don’t need a long shopping list to make something that tastes sunny, sweet, and completely dessert-worthy. Each square delivers bright lemon flavor with a soft, tender texture and just enough sweetness to balance that citrusy tang. A light dusting of powdered sugar can make the tops look bakery-ready, while the centers stay moist and luscious underneath. They’re the kind of simple lemon treat that tastes especially good chilled, when that fresh citrus flavor becomes even brighter and every little square feels like a cool burst of sweetness.

Mississippi Mud Potatoes Are the Side Dish Everyone Devours

Mississippi Mud Potatoes coat tender diced potatoes in a creamy mixture of cheddar, cream cheese, and sour cream. As the casserole bakes, the sauce melts around every potato and the top develops bubbling, golden patches. Bacon can bring smoky crunch, while onions or green onions add savory freshness. The finished dish is rich, cheesy, and substantial enough to challenge the main course for attention.

The Five Types of Apples I'm Buying Instead of Granny Smith for Baking

Discover five different varieties of apples you should seek out this fall as I find them to be better than Granny Smith for baking. Granny Smith apples are the default apple for a lot of people for baking. They are a tart apple that holds its shape very well when baked. The apples are available at pretty much every grocery store. And they are one of the least expensive apple varieties.

Southern Hoecakes Bring Crispy Cornmeal Comfort to the Skillet

Southern hoecakes transform a short list of cornmeal-based ingredients into thin, golden rounds with crisp edges and warm, tender centers. Cooking them directly in a skillet gives every cake the browned surface that separates them from oven-baked cornbread. Their flavor is simple and comforting, which allows them to work equally well with savory meals and sweet breakfast toppings. Fresh from the pan, they have the rustic texture that makes traditional recipes endure.

Million Dollar Lasagna Makes Every Layer Feel Luxurious

Million Dollar Lasagna takes everything comforting about the classic pasta bake and increases the creamy, cheesy richness in every layer. Tender noodles hold a hearty meat sauce alongside a smooth cheese mixture that gives the casserole its famously indulgent texture. Mozzarella melts across the top and develops golden spots around the edges, while the sauce works its way through the pasta beneath. Every slice delivers meat, tomato, several cheeses, and enough structure to hold together on the plate. It feels like restaurant-style comfort food but still carries the unmistakable warmth of a casserole made for sharing.

7 Dishes That Filled Graduation Party Tables in the 1970s and 1980s

I use AI to help draft these articles. Every recipe and every fact in them is checked before publishing. The open house ran from noon until the food was gone, which was usually the better measure. Someone put up a banner over the garage door, someone else hauled in folding tables, and by one o'clock there were thirty people in the backyard, holding paper plates. The graduate circulated with an envelope in each hand. The adults stood over the tables and ate.

This Herb Was Used for Joint Stiffness in Cold Weather Before Pain Gel Existed

Frankincense, the resin from the Boswellia tree, has been used for thousands of years for joint pain and stiffness. It's held up remarkably well under modern research, a meta-analysis of seven clinical trials found it eases pain and stiffness and improves joint function, and one trial even tested it as a topical rub with real results. I reach for a frankincense-infused oil on cold, achy mornings. 😊

Old-Fashioned Rice Pudding Is Comfort Served by the Spoonful

Old-fashioned rice pudding transforms humble pantry ingredients into a creamy dessert that feels warm, familiar, and deeply comforting. Rice slowly absorbs the sweetened milk as it cooks, becoming tender while releasing enough starch to thicken the mixture naturally. Vanilla and cinnamon add a gentle fragrance, and raisins can contribute little bursts of sweetness for those who enjoy them. The finished pudding is soft and rich without needing elaborate decoration, which is part of what gives it such enduring appeal.
