LINCOLN, R.I. (WPRI) — Employees and customers at a Lincoln bank noticed a duck in distress Monday morning, but they weren’t sure why at first.

Debra Ferranti told 12 News she parked around 9:30 a.m. and saw the duck wandering around and quacking outside the HarborOne branch.

It was then, Ferranti said, that she and Shae, an employee of the bank, heard a brood of ducklings that had fallen into a storm drain.

Shae immediately lifted the sewer grate and went down into the drain, according to Ferranti. With the help of other bank employees, he removed 13 ducklings from the drain.

“Everybody was helping from the bank,” Ferranti wrote in an email to 12 News. “It was a total help fest.”

Ferranti said 10 of the ducklings walked away with their mother. However, she turned three of them away, so those ducklings were taken in by Lincoln Animal Control.
