Milestones in Motion looking for runners and walkers on June 29th
LIMA, OHIO (WLIO) - Lima Memorial Health Systems is marking its 125th year with a 5K. On June 29th, Milestones in Motion will allow people to get a little active as they take a couple of laps around the hospital. The Lima Memorial is doing a variety of events to celebrate their anniversary, and they are inviting walkers and runners out to promote a healthy lifestyle at the health system.
Apple, Fuerst newest to Delphos City Schools Hall of Honor
DELPHOS — The Jefferson Alumni held its annual dinner Saturday at the Delphos Eagles. Delphos City Schools Hall of Honor welcomed its 2024 class. 2003 graduate Travis Apple and longtime teacher/principal/coach Mark Fuerst were inducted.
Historic Model T makes trip through West Central Ohio on Lincoln Highway
GOMER, OHIO (WLIO) - A piece of Ford history rolled through our area on Monday as it recreated a trip that it made 100 years ago. Dan Groman shot video of the 10 millionth Ford Model T driving on the Lincoln Highway through Gomer Monday, after leaving Mansfield that morning. The historic vehicle is making the same coast-to-coast drive from New York to San Fransico on Lincoln highway that it made back in 1924 after it rolled off the assembly line. The trip is sponsored by the Lincoln Highway Association.
Kids at summer Freedom School program keep learning and reading during vacation
LIMA, OH(WLIO) - School is out, but many kids are taking the opportunity to keep learning this summer. The Bradfield Community Center and Trinity United Methodist Church are teaming up for the six-week Freedom School program. Kids spend the day doing STEM activities, learning healthy lifestyle habits, and going on several field trips. Local experts also come in to teach the kids life skills like personal finance.
St. Gerard Parish Festival has something for everyone this weekend
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - For many in Lima, it's not summer until they've been to the St. Gerard Parish Festival. All weekend, families from around Lima and beyond are flocking to St. Gerard to enjoy fair food, rides, carnival and betting games, live music, and, of course, their famous wings. Over 5,000 bone-in wings were prepared, and volunteers say people are willing to wait in line for as long as 45 minutes to an hour just to get them.

Youth golfers play well at LJGA event
LIMA — Several young golfers finished in the top five of their age divisions at Thursday's Heartlight Pharmacy Open at the Oaks Golf Club in Lima. The tournament was the second of the season for the Lima Junior Golf Association. The first tournament was Tuesday at the Tamarac Golf Course.
Final Saturday for the Mayor's Spring Clean Up
LIMA, OHIO (WLIO) - Lots of Lima residents are taking advantage of the great weather to clean out their homes and a city park on Saturday morning. This was the final day for the Mayor’s Spring Clean-Up dumpster sites. The Martin Luther King Jr. Neighborhood Association and the Allen County Youth Bike and Pedestrian Task Force hosted a dumpster at MLK Park. Besides having a place for the community to drop off items, the neighborhood association also sponsored a cleanup day at the park to make it a great location for the community to use.
Cars, kids, parade highlight second day of Pork Rind Festival
HARROD — It was a full day Saturday in Harrod as the Pork Rind Festival featured a parade, a record number of cars at the car show and many activities for kids. The Cruise-In Car Show’s 145 participants could be seen lining the sides of every street and included everything from motorcycles to both classic and newer model cars and trucks. Festival staff said the previous record of participants in the car show was 88.
Family fun at the library featuring a popular Australian Blue Heeler
This week, and going forward every week of the summer, the Putnam County District Library is holding multiple family fun programs throughout the county. At both Columbus Grove and Pandora library branches, the PCDL hosted a “Blue Friend Adventures Party!” that featured the fan-favorite Australian Blue Heeler, Bluey, and multiple fun activities. The well-attended event was sponsored by The Friends of the PCDL and Blanchard Valley Health System.
Street Artist transforms sidewalks into artistic creations to kick off Downtown Lima's First Friday Season
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Another summer season of First Fridays has returned to Downtown Lima, and visitors on Friday night noticed the sidewalk had a lot of color. Artist David Zinn visited Downtown Lima Friday night to show First Friday visitors the world of street art, a form of art he has embraced since 2005. On Lima's Town Square, Zinn brought out his chalk and charcoal, got down on the sidewalk, and created improvised artistic creations using the sidewalk as his medium. A large crowd flocked around Zinn to watch him draw three-dimensional creatures, including a dragon, and Zinn hopes viewers leave with a renewed sense of inspiration and creativity for sidewalk chalk.
A shooting during a large fight in Lima on Saturday resulted in two people being injured
LIMA, OHIO (WLIO) - Two people were shot during a large fight Saturday night on the south side of Lima. According to Lima Detectives, around 11 p.m., two groups of people came together to fight in the 700 block of West Vine Street. During the fight, 42-year-old David Johnson of Lima fired 13 shots into the crowd. Bullets hit 30-year-old Angel Nicely and 27-year-old Mark Collins, both from Lima, who were in the area because of the dispute. They were both taken to the hospital, where they were treated for their injuries and released. Besides the individuals, there were vehicles parked along the street that were hit. Johnson was taken into custody and charged with suspicion of felonious assault, and his wife believes others should be arrested.
