The newly-formed Greenbrier Debating Club will make their debut to the school on May 2 when they meet Greenbrier Military School of Lewisburg in a debate on the question: “Resolved: That the latest immigration bill should be vetoed.”

Another National Park

Plans will be pushed as rapidly for the establishment of a national park in this state as possible, a committee meeting with Governor Morgan decided last week. An area of 1,300 square miles, lying partly in West Virginia and partly in Virginia is being considered as the ideal location  and everything will be done that can be done to make it vie with Yellowstone National Park. The territory covering 60 square miles in Greenbrier, Pocahontas and Monroe counties in this state and 700 square miles in Giles, Craig, Bath, Alleghany and Montgomery counties in Virginia, abounds in beautiful natural scenery, has scores of mineral springs, and is easily reached by railroad or state highway routes.

Great Hotel For Huntington

West Virginia’s largest hotel is to be located in Huntington, Fred C. Pritchard, Huntington banker and capitalist, has made an announcement that he expects to construct a thirteen-story hotel at a cost of $2,500,000, containing six hundred rooms with baths.

Drive-In Theatre At Blacks

In keeping with the many steps in progress being made in Western Greenbrier, a $50,000 corporation is being formed for the construction and operation of a Drive-In theatre. The new business enterprise and place of entertainment will be located on the west side of Black’s Tourist Court on Route 60 located a short distance east of Rupert.

Help The Cemetery

The men of the Brotherhood Bible Class of the Old Stone Church are holding a benefit supper in the Sunday School building on May 2. The proceeds will go toward helping defray the maintenance cost of the Lewisburg Cemetery. Donations are being received by the cemetery trustees to keep the work going on in the cemetery. So far a splendid work has been done in improving and keeping the grounds in shape.

Open Air Theatre

The Walnut Hill Drive-In Theatre will re-open April 30 for the season. The theatre is located on Route 219 just north of the Lewisburg town limits.

Nixon Prepared For Court Battle

President Nixon is ready to carry his fight against further release of his Watergate tapes to the Supreme Court if necessary, his aides said today.  As the new court battle began to unfold, the debate increased between Nixon and the House Judiciary Committee, studying his possible impeachment.

Governor Moore Predicts 3 rd Time

Gov. Arch Moore has predicted he will seek and be elected to a third consecutive terms as governor of West Virginia. Moore is on record publicly as having said several months ago he believes the 1970 constitutional amendment which allowed governors to serve two consecutive terms may not apply to him – and he may thus be free to seek a third term.

Agnew Loses Place On Md. Bar

Maryland’s highest court has disbarred former Vice President Spiro T. Agnew for “fraud, dishonesty and deceit.” To do otherwise, the Maryland Court of Appeals said would “constitute a travesty of our responsibility.”

Medical Examiner Determines Bones To Be Human Remains

Bones found by a local man who was digging for ramps on Cold Knob have been confirmed as human remains. Sgt. Bruce Hosey of the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department said officials from the state medical examiner’s office in Charleston have determined the bones found by Roger Holiday are, in fact, human. Although they have not finished processing the scene and excavating the site, Hosey said the Sheriff’s department, which is directing the investigation, is currently operating under the assumption that the remains of only one body are located in the area.

“Hit List” Rumors Create Tensions At Eastern Greenbrier

According to Principal John Curry, rumors of a “hit list” led approximately 250 students at Eastern Greenbrier Junior High School to sign themselves out of class and go home yesterday. Curry said when students arrived at school rumors were circulating that threats toward children wearing specific colors were being made either via a note or an internet posting. The principal said several students reported having heard that children “wearing blue, red, black or green would be shot.”

Mystical Arts Tour Underway

The Mystical Arts of Tibet International Tour began at Carnegie Hall with an opening ceremony that featured traditional Tibetan music, chanting, and the beginning of the sand mandala, a painting made with colorful sand that symbolizes world healing and longevity in the Tibetan culture.
