Lewisburg, Pa. — The Great Race car competition is making a stop in downtown Lewisburg this June.

Participants of the competitive controlled-speed endurance road rally will be parking on Market Street on Wednesday, June 26 at 12 p.m.

The Great Race is a road rally on public highways featuring antique, vintage, and collector cars. According to the event website , the rally is designed to test the endurance of each team and their classic car.

The race is not a test of top speed, but rather a test of the ability to follow precise course instructions and the ability to endure on a cross-country trip. The course instructions require the competing teams to drive at or below the posted speed limits at all times.

Each team consists of a driver and navigator duo who receive a set of course instructions — usually 220 to 250 instructions per day — that indicate every turn, speed change, stop, and start the team must make throughout each day of the race.

Each team is scored based upon how accurately each team follows the course instructions.

The route involves four to seven checkpoints which record the exact time each car passes the checkpoint. The goal is to arrive at each checkpoint at the correct time, not the fastest. Teams are penalized for not hitting the mark at the exact time.

On a race trail designed for scenic roads and stops in rural towns, Lewisburg is the first stop in Pennsylvania and the eighth stop of the race.
