Lewisburg, Pa. — A man from out of state walked out of the Lewisburg Walmart without paying for more than $400 of merchandise, police say.

James L. Torrey, 35, of Chicago, Illinois, had gone to the store in Kelly Township a total of three times between March 19 and 20 and walked out without paying for items, according to Trp. Steven Geiger Jr. of state police at Milton. Torrey is currently on parole in his home state of Illinois, according to court documents.

Asset protection noticed a truck hauling a trailer with the company logo "Bari91" was parked overnight in the parking from March 19 to 20. Walmart's surveillance video captured Torrey, who was the passenger in the truck, get out of the truck around 6 p.m. March 19 and go into the store. Torrey grabbed several items in the store and walked out a short time later without paying, Geiger wrote in the affidavit.

Torrey was seen making two additional trips to the store between March 19 and 20. The second time, he went into the store, took a laundry basket, and several other unknown items. The third time, Torrey went in the store shortly before 6:30 a.m. March 20 and asked an associate in electronics to get a camera out of the locked case. When the associate walked over to the register with the camera, Torrey went the opposite way and took several items including an electric scooter, Geiger said. Torrey then walked out of the exit doors with the items and refused to show a receipt to the attendant near the doors.

Police investigated and found Torrey had taken a total of 16 items worth $438 including food items, sneakers, pants, hoodies, and boxer briefs.

Police filed misdemeanor retail theft and receiving stolen property charges at the office of District Judge Jeffrey A. Rowe in Lewisburg. A warrant is out for Torrey's arrest.
