The incident happened around 9:15 p.m. Saturday, May 4, in Copiague. The victim was crossing Sunrise Highway (Route 27) from north to south, between New Highway and Court Street, when she was struck by a westbound 2019 Chevrolet Traverse driven by a 62-year-old Islip woman, according to Suffolk County Police.

Frustrated civic leaders in central Queens are opposing any proposed licensed cannabis shops in their neighborhoods until authorities padlock all the illegal ones. “The Board received numerous concerns from residents regarding the proliferation of illegal smoke shops already operating in our district and the negative impact these establishments have had on our community,” Sherry Algredo, chairwoman of Community Board 9 covering Kew Gardens, Richmond Hill, Ozone Park and Woodhaven, told state regulators in a recent letter.

A Bergen County man was sentenced Friday in Brooklyn federal court for his role in a scheme to defraud JetBlue Airways of more than $1.5 million. Julien Levy, 39, of Englewood, bribed now-former JetBlue employee Keily Nunez, 44, of Queens, New York, and an unidentified co-conspirator, to approve aircraft part invoices, according to Breon Peace, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.
