Driver Escapes Injury in Wednesday Morning Big Rig Wreck in Cherokee County
Fortunately – the driver of a jack-knifed 18 wheeler – managed to escape injury after crashing the big rig here in Cherokee County. That mishap is listed as taking place at approximately 4:50am Wednesday. Emergency crews responded, immediately after the driver lost control of the truck, and crashed on Highway 35, close to County Road 804. Fagan’s Wrecker Service quickly arrived and towed the truck from the scene.

New Information on Fatal Plane Crash in Etowah County
One person is dead following a plane crash that occurred in the northern part of Etowah County on Monday. Etowah County Deputy Coroner, Dantez Robinson, stated Charles Walker Pickering Jr., 65, of Fairhope, was identified as the pilot killed during the crash. A Federal Aviation Administration Official, said a single-engine Piper PA-32R crashed close to the Northeast Alabama Regional Airport in Gadsden at around 5:45 that afternoon. Sheriff’s Office Deputies – along with fire departments from Attalla, Ivalee and Gallant all responded to the area of Rocky Hollow Cutoff Road. Only the pilot was on-board.

A 49-year-old man was shot to death in the 2000 block of Jackson Trail in Etowah County Thanksgiving morning, according to the Etowah County Sheriff's Office. Deputies were called to the scene just after 10 a.m. on reports of a domestic dispute involving a shooting. When they arrived, deputies found Andrew Cornelius Weldon suffering from a gunshot wound.

The City of Gadsden has rescheduled its holiday events due to expected heavy rainfall. The City Hall Tree Lighting, initially set for December 1, 2023, will now take place on December 8, 2023.
