She is an associate editor of and contributor to Mystery and Suspense Writers (Scribner) and the winner of the 1999 Edgar Award for Criticism, presented by the Mystery Writers of America. In 2019, Corrigan was awarded the Nona Balakian Citation for Excellence in Reviewing by the National Book Critics Circle.
Back Alley Market returns to DeKalb this weekend
DeKALB – Back Alley Market featuring more than 125 vendors offering a variety of fares will return to downtown DeKalb this weekend in time for Mother’s Day. New this year is an area dedicated to young entrepreneurs, organizers said. Market goers will have the option of checking out wares from aspiring business owners expected to be featuring their own handmade jewelry, spin art, key chains, crocheted animals and more. The area will be at Palmer Court and Second Street.
DeKalb Festival Chorus presents ‘Highland Voices’ on Saturday
DeKALB – The DeKalb Festival Chorus will present a spring concert of choral music and storytelling from artists of the North Atlantic Isles on Saturday. The concert will feature arrangements of Scottish and Irish folk songs such as “Loch Lomond,” “Johnnie Cope” and “Wild Mountain Thyme,” and many other pieces that explore the themes of love and loss and war and peace through the historical lens of Celtic artists both ancient and modern, according to a news release.

DeKALB – When it comes to hair and beauty, first impressions tend to be a must. At Nena’s Beauty Lounge, 203 E. Locust St., DeKalb, this is no exception. Owner Stephanie Ortiz said business has been fairing well for her and fellow cosmetologists since relocating to city’s downtown from their Fourth Street location in November 2023.
Chana School Museum seeks donations for $10,000 match
OREGON — Supporters of our local history need to rally for the Chana School Museum. The 1883 Chana School was to be destroyed in 1998. A group of concerned citizens organized a movement to save the structure by moving it to Oregon’s Park East. The schoolhouse was then restored and became an attraction for our rural area.

Here is a list of five things to do in the Sauk Valley this weekend:. 1 View a car show: The 12th annual Lincoln Highway Car Show will take place in the center of Franklin Grove from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 11. There will be awards for six classes of vehicles, a DJ and vendors. All proceeds will fund the construction of handicapped-accessible restrooms at Atlasta park.
