Big-name authors, small-town charm: Why readers flock to this Louisiana festival each spring
Bayou country's premiere literary festival is set to return to the banks of the Teche next month. Books Along the Teche Literary Festival, originally founded in 2016 in support of Books Along the Teche bookstore on New Iberia's Main Street, is more than a celebration of local authors like James Lee Burke, who used New Iberia as inspiration for his Dave Robicheaux series of detective novels. This festival is a love letter to the prolific arts and culture scene blooming in Iberia Parish — and the people that bring it to life.

Lafayette foodie tries New Orleans crawfish for the first time at this iconic seafood spot
As something of an expert crawfish eater, I stay busy this time of year. I've done it all — opened the season at The Cajun Table, waited in a line of cars at the Crawfish Time drive-thru, and driven to Rayne for opening night at Hawk's Crawfish Restaurant (they have a special crawfish purging system, and are known for waiting to open until the crustaceans are big and plentiful enough to boil in large quantities for their dedicated fans).

Romero, Owens team racks up a special limit for a 1st at Lake Martin
BREAUX BRIDGE – Brad Romero and Raven Owens started winning the first Louisiana Bass Anglers tournament of the year at 6:35 a.m. Feb. 28. Romero, a New Iberia native who lives in Lafayette, and Owens left with the 26 other boats at safe daylight and stayed close to the jam-packed little boat landing that serves boaters and kayakers who want to fish the small, scenic yet historically productive lake in St. Martin Parish. Before many of the tournament boats even arrived at their respective destinations, Romero set the hook on a 5-pound bass that bounced off the side of the boat when he “boat flipped” it but eventually landed inside the custom-built aluminum boat.
